Leleka Hammocks and How to Use Them

Leleka Hammocks and How to Use Them:

1. Finding the Perfect Spot:

  • Look for sturdy anchors: Healthy trees at least 15cm (6 inches) in diameter. The distance between them will depend on your specific Leleka hammock model, but generally, aim for around 3 to 4.5 meters (10-15 feet) apart.
  • Consider the surroundings: Make sure the area underneath is clear of rocks, sharp objects, or anything that could be uncomfortable or unsafe if you were to get out or (unlikely!) fall out.

2. Setting Up Your Leleka Hammock:

  • Unpack carefully: Gently unroll your Leleka hammock, being mindful not to snag the fabric on anything sharp.
  • Attach the suspension: Your Leleka hammock likely came with Gstraps.
    • Leleka G-Straps (Specific Models like Pixy 2.0 & Elfy): These are designed for quick and easy setup. 1 Simply wrap them around the trees and use the G-hooks to attach the hammock loops. You can usually adjust the height easily with this system.

  • Attach the hammock to the suspension: Use the G-hook to connect the straps to your hammock.
  • Aim for the right sag: Your hammock shouldn’t be stretched too tight like a rope. It should have a gentle curve or sag. The lowest point of the hammock when you sit in it should be about 30-40 cm (12-16 inches) off the ground. This allows for a comfortable lay. A 30-degree angle between your suspension straps and the ground is a good guideline.

3. Getting In and Out Like a Pro:

  • Find the center: Gently spread the hammock fabric with your hands to locate the middle.
  • Sit down first: Sit in the center of the hammock, just like you would sit in a chair. This distributes your weight evenly and prevents tipping.
  • Swing your legs in: Once you’re sitting comfortably, carefully lift and swing your legs into the hammock. Lean back gently.
  • Keep your center of gravity low: Avoid sudden, jerky movements when getting in or out. Use your hands to steady yourself.

4. Finding Your Cozy Spot:

  • Lie diagonally: For the flattest and most comfortable position, try lying diagonally across the hammock instead of straight along the center line. This will prevent the sides from squeezing you.
  • Adjust your position: Shift your weight slightly until you feel well-supported and comfortable. The edges of the hammock can sometimes act as a natural headrest.
  • Use a pillow if you like: A small pillow can add extra comfort for your head and neck. A stuff sack with a puffer jacket works just as well.
  • Add Insulation: The Moon Quilt is the perfect addition to any Leleka hammock.

5. Staying Safe and Happy:

  • Check your setup: Before each use, quickly inspect the hammock fabric, straps, and connections for any signs of wear or damage.
  • Respect the weight limit: Don’t exceed the weight capacity specified by Leleka for your hammock model.
  • No swinging too high! Hammocks are for relaxing, not for extreme swinging. Gentle swaying is fine.
  • Remove sharp objects: Take out anything sharp from your pockets that could damage the hammock fabric.
  • Consider the weather: If you’re outdoors, be mindful of potential rain or sun. You might want to consider a tarp for protection. Leleka, Liteway and Remlite offer a great range of different tarp set ups which complete your perfect hammock set up.

Leleka hammocks are designed for relaxation and enjoyment. These wonderful hammocks are now available in New Zealand and distributed by Remlite.  By following these simple steps, you’ll be swaying in comfort in no time! Happy hammocking!
